He finally finished working on me asking every few minutes if i was hurting, which i finally said hell yeah im hurting, this was after he followed me to my car in the parking lot. Before i had this happen , i worked in a crew with 5 other men and one had wrist watch that chirped at 5 pm for quitting time, i was the only one in the room of the 5 that could hear that little chirp,2 weeks after the dental procedure, i noticed i could hold my ear to friends watch and couldn't hear it ,where b4 dental work i could hear it across the room., i now have moderate hearing loss and severe ringing in that ear Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-55223682048026075422018-02-20T12:45:00.522-05:002018-02-20T12:45:00.522-05:00Sorry for everyones issues. I would like to do the Facebook but can not figure out how to get on it for this group. My issue started in 2015 wih a molar extraction on lower right. The molar next to the last one. I had an actual oral surgeon do this who was an MD. He was to do a post for a new tooth. Anyway, I am a wimp so was knocked out. I was OK till two weeks later when I tried solid foods and whampy, my gums upper and lower went numb and I did have a lump inside my mouth behind my last molar and a bruise on my lower jaw. Now I realized he had to have hit a nerve. I told him and he got angry with me. I also apparently ended up with a misalignment of my bite. That had to have happened with the huge block he had to have put in my mouth to extract. My jaw must have been hard to open. I have always had issues of night grinding which then made everything worse. My teeth are always hurting and insatiable thirst etc. I do not have my tongue numb but I am in pain constantly. And like all of you , no one cares or listens. I went to a peridondist first thinking I had gum disease and did not. He referred me to a dental school who wont see me. They said I need a neurologist. I have a night guard but it does not take any pain away. I have done the magnetic machine with my brother who is a chiropractor along with massage and laser. The problem is I live way far away from him. I think it helped a bit but we dont live in the same state. I need my bite to change but my lower mouth is stationary because of the screw and crown that eventually replaced the tooth that was pulled. The thirst drives me crazy so I have been chewing gum daily for a year and a half. Which isnt good. But without the gum, I cant talk very well. The pain is only helped sometimes at night if I have a Xanax which calms the nerve endings. I would again like to get on the FB.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09408179351048146431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-14507065845801258492018-02-06T20:23:27.554-05:002018-02-06T20:23:27.554-05:00I was shot up by student today. The dentist gave the first of 4 shots in my lower right gum. He must've hit the TN - it felt like a series of electric shocks along side of my tongue. I asked him if that was common, he said, "it tells me I'm in the right spot". Every day the pain gets worse!! Right side upper palate aches, teeth and gums are very sensative, lower lip and right side of tongue have a burning sensation - right jawline shooting pain down chin back to ear. It's unbearable, I can't concentrate, sit still, constantly focused strictly on alleviating this pain!!!!Bekkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00951166492512685906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-65908291401100143312018-01-19T14:12:43.259-05:002018-01-19T14:12:43.259-05:00Hi Ed & Jane, I'm hoping this may reach y...Hi Ed & Jane, I'm hoping this may reach you, but I know this is an old blog. I have read many blogs of people with pain after dental procedures and Ed's symptoms and treatment are very much like mine. I've been to all the specialists and most recently 2 dentists are telling me that my pain at the root canal tooth is probably a root fracture that does not appear on any x-ray and they recommend extraction. My fear is to remove the tooth and have continued pain as many people have done. I'm wondering if Ed had any resolution that you could share with me as your description of pain is identical to mine. Thank you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03908081713094769467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-51145869201391256862018-01-19T13:28:06.981-05:002018-01-19T13:28:06.981-05:00Hi Jane & Ed, I know this blog is old, but I ...Hi Jane & Ed, I know this blog is old, but I have read many and am wondering if Ed is still around as my symptoms after a root canal with a crown are almost identical to his. I have 2 dentists telling me it's a possible fracture that is not showing up on an xray and they are recommending extraction. I have been through a lot of the same doctor, dentist, oral surgeon, endodontist visits and treatment as described in this blog. My pain has always been at the tooth itself. I thought I'd reach out to see if Ed made any progress or ever extracted the tooth and found a fracture. Hoping this makes it to you as I know this blog is old. Some nerve got injured by the novocaine shot. Enough about the problem. Oh, and I've had this for about 3 and a half years, ah!!! After putting the pieces together and getting confirmed by one of the best and most affordable psychics (Ann from mystic treasures in lakesworth), the solution is simple: rebuild the nervous system! Puffing the cheek where the pain is on with air and holding it there, sends tremendous energy in the jaw, tongue area. Massaging and applying pressure (acupressure) on the medulla oblongata feeds all of the nerves in head (mouth cheeks jaw tongue etc). Lion's Mane extract tea by terrasoul on amazon.com, half a teaspoon with hot water twice a day is said to build "nerves of steel". Dr Christopher's Relax Eze bulk tea, put them in capsules, take 2 or 3 times a day. Dr. Christopher's other time tested nerve formula called "nerve formula" extract on amazon.com. These medicines will rebuild the nervous system. They have worked for many years. They will continue to work. erichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03290779171529489681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-59686048268681256042018-01-04T03:45:18.379-05:002018-01-04T03:45:18.379-05:00I'm unsure if this is exactly what is wrong wi...I'm unsure if this is exactly what is wrong with me but I have very simular symptoms. It started when I went to the dentist to take care of a cavity then tooth decay then filling then I lost the filling and it was 6 months to go get it re-filled. The long wait caused another infection what caused the dentist to have to drill closer to the nerve than he was comfortable with. Then the new filling. The pain started when the filling fell out and I had to force my mom to make an appointment. This was about a year ago. My tooth was extremely sensitive to tempture. (I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I got shingles when about four years ago and took a 2 years to heal my nerves. Over time my tooth pain has shifted. Pain strikes happen once-twice a month 1-4 days. My gums swell and feel numb. Expeshualy in places they stick the needles. I'm not as sensitive to temptress (as much). I have loss of taste and appatite. Pain is most times unbearable. I have headaches. The dentist tells me the pain is from my sinus being far in my mouth and when my allergies act up I get it. Wich makes sense because it happens to my gradma and sister but I never experienced allergies before this. I can't believe that I'm the only one with these problems. Please help. It's a bit hard to explain, but when the cool liquid hits my lip, it feels as if it's traveled through my gums to the skin on my left chin. I had a root canal redone about a year ago by an ENDODONTIST, a specialist in root canals, so you'd think she'd know what she's doing with a novacaine needle. NOPE! As soon as she hit the nerve, tears came to my eyes. It felt like the needle went all the way through my cheek. I know she could tell that it was hurting way too much, but she just kept jiggling the needle in the same place. I figured oh well, it hurt, but it's over now. Boy, was I wrong! In all of the years that I've been getting novacaine shots from the dentist, NOT ONCE have I, nor most people, ever been told that these shots could cause permanent damage. I am a pharmacist, so I have a healthcare background, and I guess I should have put two and two together, but I didn't until my ordeal, following some research. You'd think with an incidence of 1 in 100, that this would be something they'd warn you about! My procedure was done on a Friday, and I dealt with excruciating nerve and tooth pain all weekend. Plus, my left cheek, tongue, lip, and chin were still completely numb, so I was at the office waiting for them to open Monday morning. Basically, she tried to tell me that there was swelling around the nerve and that it should go away within a few days. She wouldn't give me steroids to reduce the swelling because they could render my antibiotic ineffective. Angry, I left hoping for the best. The next week, the pain had mostly subsided, but the numbness remained, so I went to my dentist. She explained that since the swelling went down and I was still numb, that the endodontist probably nicked the nerve with the needle. She also said that she, herself, could have just as easily done the same thing to me, or anyone for that matter, because everyone's nerves are in different places, and it's not an exact science....ok....but I'm still numb and I'd like to punch that endodontist in the throat! Now, a year later, I've gotten most of my feeling back, but a portion of my left chin, lip, and gums is still numb, and I'm thinking this is as good as it's going to get. It's not really inhibiting, just annoying, and I've damaged a few of my teeth due to the urge to clench my jaw, I guess because it creates a bit of feeling in the numb area and it feels good. I researched to see if a lawsuit was an option, but it sounds like people rarely win because it's difficult to prove negligence. My injury isn't debilitating like Jane's though. If I were you, I'd be trying to sue the pants off of that dentist! You've lost so much, and you're still greatly affected by it! I keep getting reminders that I need to go to the dentist and get my cap placed for $600. I already paid the endodontist $200 and she paralyzed my mouth, so I'm not exactly excited about finishing the procedure. I really would rather never get a novacaine injection again! How have you handled any needed fillings, etc. since your injury?rxgirlmelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04806699847254428880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-28079629537979088702017-10-15T18:07:28.459-04:002017-10-15T18:07:28.459-04:00I have the same feeling when I drink cool liquids....I have the same feeling when I drink cool liquids. I posted several times on "Lingual Nerve Injury from Anesthetic Injections - Sciential" website and found that the issue with dentists hitting and damaging nerves through injections is more widespread than I was originally led to believe by the dentists. The above website author does not maintain the forums anymore (not sure where the info went), but it is nice to know there are others still out there (like this site - thanks)looking for answers.
My most recent dentist adventure (after changing to a dentist other than the one that injured me) was for a filling replacement on the same side as that which was injured. The dentist injected me, but the injection was no good - it did not numb the area. He gave me another injection and that did not work either. He then injected directly beside the tooth being filled and that worked. It was interesting to note that neither of the first two injections worked - I did not have any numbness at all. I am not a Dr., but I can only imagine that the original injection injury severed the nerves such that the pathway to render the target area numb was no longer intact. Just a guess though.
I have had no taste on the left side of my tongue now since 2003. It makes me angry every time I think about it. My present dentist offers no suggestions on what can be done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-60034496142552520212017-09-08T11:39:08.347-04:002017-09-08T11:39:08.347-04:00Hi thank you for sharing your story. She was given 4 injections and only felt discomfort in her tongue. The dentist suggested to stop right away and try again the following week. That evening the tongue pain was still there and continued for a solid week before some relief was apparent. She went back to dentist the following week, which is this week, and again he attempts to inject her in the same area. Right away she instantly felt pain in her tongue and nearly jumped out of her chair. Almost to near tears. The dentist asked her if she felt it in her tongue and she said a resounding YES! He quickly withdrew and started on a different tooth on other side of mouth, which was much more bearable. Two days later and her tongue still hurts and burns. The dentist did inform me that it's hard to pin point exactly where the nerve is so he doesn't hit it. He further explained that he has to be within just a few mm away from the nerve. Unfortunately, he hit the nerve that day but there was no way he could continue with that tooth being that she was already in pain. Another try maybe? I'm not so sure. I know she needs the filling done but what are the alternatives, if any? I hate to see her like this, but how do I help her? Back in March I had a dentist appointment where I had 3-5 fillings done (both sides on the top row of teeth). A few days or maybe about a week after the appointment my tongue started to feel swollen on the back right. I then started to constantly have dead skin in my mouth all the time. One day about a month after the appointment, my tongue turned yellow/orange. They thought I had a yeast infection which turned out to be negative when I had it cultured, and the Nystatin rinse and Clotrimazole lozenges I took did nothing. Starting in Late April/Early May, my tongue started to get a burning sensation and my throat was sore on the right side (still is a little bit). After about a month or month and a half the tongue burning dissipated and the swollen feeling did a bit as well. It is now the end of July and I've been seeing several ENTs, PCPs, Dentists, and an Allergy Doctor for the past couple of months. I had some patch testing done and just finished it today and got my results back. I finally have an answer. It turns out that I have Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Acrylates (particularly whatever Acrylates are contained in "OptiBond Solo Plus" adhesive). My allergy doc says once the monomers in the acrylates in my mouth bond to form polymers, I will no longer have any reaction. I am starting a prednisolone regiment for the next month (15mg/5mL). I asked if I could just get them drilled out, and he said yes I may be able to, but that could spark a reaction as the adhesive would get loose in my mouth. I think I will leave them in and see if I get better. It is feeling "mostly" back to normal now after nearly 5 months. I hope this post helps someone, as I know I was desperately searching the internet for answers when I was in the thick of my struggle. God bless all of you, and have a positive attitude about things. Life will get better in time. Don't let your mind control you. If doctors tell you that you don't have anything seriously wrong with you - believe them. I highly suggest you seek out an allergy doctor if you experienced any of the same symptoms as me and think it is not related to the shot you had for numbing. I saw several people say they had severe pain after their injection - that did not happen to me. I did not have my lingual nerve damaged, but if you are searching for answers you may come across this post. I hope this helps someone!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-46795963433943258132017-07-11T02:40:21.452-04:002017-07-11T02:40:21.452-04:00Hi,

I felt and incredibly painful electric shock going in different directions all over the left side of my face. I yelled and jumped and she stopped injecting. She showed the needle, and she had only put in a quarter of the Novocaine, but the whole left side of my face was numb everywhere the electric shock went. She said she hit a nerve.
After that, she said there was a big white patch of skin on my cheek that also went over my nose. She seemed worried, but kept poking at it and saying that it will go away soon.
After about 10 minutes, not positive about the time, because I was trying not to cry at that point, she said the white patch went away.
She showed me a mirror, and I had about an inch red splotch on my cheek and my face was swollen on that side. She denied that it was swollen even though I was looking right at it.
My face took about 6 hours to start getting feeling back, but the less numb it was, the more painful it was.
For a few days after, I had a hard time getting out of bed. I kept sleeping in really late and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get out of bed.
Almost 2 weeks later, my cheek hurts all the time, my tongue and throat hurt all the time. It's worse when I eat. Heat is excruciating. They feel, I guess, kind of sore, but also kind of numb, but swollen and raw at the same time. I can't really describe the feeling very well. I've only felt anything like this when I had strep throat, and that was only my throat, not my tongue too. It's not quite like strep throat either, but it's the closest way I can describe it.
I went in 6 days later with an advocate and he pushed for steroids. I took them and I think they helped, but now I have these pains that won't go away. I also seem to have nasal problems and face pain on the left side that wasn't there before.
I think that I read that your type of injury happens when the bottom jaw is injected. She injected my cheek and I think she went really deep.
Does anyone else have problems with an upper teeth injection? The nerve specialist now has her on OXcarbazepine which doesn't seem to work without stoking up the dosage to the point she is lupy. We are now at 5 months with no relief in sight. Do you know anyone who has received disability for this issue because my wife still cannot work?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07532368309251066989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-60263406442928915052017-06-10T22:48:09.639-04:002017-06-10T22:48:09.639-04:00Yes she went to one of those they claimed the orig...Yes she went to one of those they claimed the original dentist missed a canal did that and said she would be better in a couple days.Not!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07532368309251066989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-9165357588217580752017-06-04T10:23:10.889-04:002017-06-04T10:23:10.889-04:00Hi All,

Last week I upped my vitamin B12 from 500mg a day to 1000mg a day, and have seen babystep improvements ever since. I still feel the tightness, the burning has almost all but stopped, still hurts to brush my teeth a little.

Went back to the oral surgeon on 6/3/17. He said my progress is pretty good, and he delayed my trip to the neurosurgeon by a month. He told me to be prepared that this progress can stop at anytime (thanks for raining on my parade dr!). Next appt is 7/7. I'll post again. Hopefully by 7/7 I'll be at 100%. I am now at around the 1.5 month mark since that fatal dentist appointment.A.Cnoreply@blogger.com
