My left lingual nerve was damaged in my wisdom teeth removal a month and a half ago. I have pulling, prickly, burning, tingling, etc. sensations that are sometimes too intense to ignore. Sometimes it hurts to talk, which is extremely debilitating. However, I also can't feel much on the outside, or taste on that side. I'm going to look into surgery. I take gabapentin as needed and b12, but every day is a new, shitty adventure honestly. It sucks, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12102756844888920970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-11452818056945940492018-04-17T16:19:58.074-04:002018-04-17T16:19:58.074-04:00Susannah, thanks for your update. Problem is, the damage is likely already done. My upper left molar started all the problems, and I ultimately had it removed, but the pain remained.
So I can't say whether removing it now will even help, because if the nerve is already injured, removing the implant may have little effect. I did try Elavil at one point. I just couldn't take the side effects, but I am very sensitive to medication (anti-depressants and anti-seizure meds are no bueno for me, but help many people!) Perhaps my pain is connected to inflammation - it certainly seems to be. I have never taken opioids for it. I tried gabapentin for a couple of years and it helped but I began to have memory issues which impinged on my work so I stopped taking all medications and used mint toothpicks to cool my mouth. Truly, my pain has always felt like inflammation and not the searing, sharp bolt that I have heard trigeminal neuralgia sufferers describe. Here is a link to my neurologist. As I wrote in an earlier post, it took six months for me see him but it was worth it. https://www.dukehealth.org/find-doctors-physicians/wolfgang-b-liedtke-md-phd Susannah Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08264307187981085675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-61144408678484091602018-04-07T12:16:02.414-04:002018-04-07T12:16:02.414-04:00Susannah,here's where I'm confused; when I...Susannah,here's where I'm confused; when I look up Naltrexone: Naltrexone blocks the effects of opioid medication, is is designed to manage opioid or alcohol dependence.
Well, for me, opioid medication is the only thing that HELPS with my nerve pain, so the last thing I want to do is block its effectiveness... I seriously thought I was the only one who suffered from this and that I was going crazy! My problem started almost 2 years ago when I elected to have a dental implant. It was such a long traumatic ordeal. After the implant, I had a nerve like pain in the back of the right side of my tongue. It then turned into a burning sensation and distorted taste. Of course, the dentist said it was not related to the implant. My regular dentist referred me to an oral facial pain place and that was a waste of time. My regular doctor suggest Elavil (sp?), but I have not tried that yet. It has made my life a living hell. NO ONE I know has this so I don't have anyone to talk to. The pain/burning tongue/distorted taste is pretty much constant. I KNOW it is related to the dental work. I paid a lot of hard earned money to have the implant and I am seriously thinking of having the whole thing removed. I wonder if that would help or make a difference at this time?? The implant was the upper right molar tooth. The implant dentist told me that was not related to the nerves to the tongue. Hello.....ALL of this started after the implant so he did something that affected the nerves!! Jane, do you have any thoughts if removing the whole implant would make a difference? Somehow I don't think it would because the damage is done. Amazing, how the implant dentist thinks it's not related to anything he did. As I posted before, I saw a neurologist at Duke University Hospital who specializes in facial pain, just over a year ago. Since then, I have seen him about three times. I am now at 2mg of naltrexone that I take daily. He also suggested I go on probiotics to help with general system inflammation. My pain has reduced by 80-95% depending on WHAT I EAT. This is so strange but if I ingest something that causes me digestive distress (gluten, alcohol, spicy foods), my mouth will also hurt. If I eat 'clean' I will have no pain at all - just a low-level burn at the back of my tongue. I cannot believe I am nearly pain-free after all these years, dollars and numerous attempts to solve this problem. "Grateful" doesn't begin to describe it. Unfortunately, this sort of pain is very difficult to diagnosis and treat and one size does not fit all. But if anyone can get relief from low-dose naltrexone, it's side-effect-free and inexpensive. Certainly worth a try.Susannah Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08264307187981085675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-5928680727902927822018-04-01T06:43:19.514-04:002018-04-01T06:43:19.514-04:00check trigeminalnerve.org.uk dental needle la suf...check trigeminalnerve.org.uk dental needle la sufferer 4 years post traumatic trigeminal neuropathy.australia resident. google needle or neurotoxiticyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-58515854100180655692018-03-20T17:10:17.942-04:002018-03-20T17:10:17.942-04:00Went to dentist 20 year ago to have a bridge built...Went to dentist 20 year ago to have a bridge built and was to be anchored on my wisdom tooth, the dentist gave me a shot in the back of my mouth that hurt like hell, i told him it felt as though he had put the needle in my ear, he laughed and said i was just being a pansy, he came back in 15 minutes later to see if i was numb, i could tell by the look on his face something was wrong, i had a knot on the outside of my jaw about 3 inches in diameter, and about 1 inch tall,he grabbed an enswell and stared rubbing at the knot trying to get it to go down, said he had never had this problem, if not, why did he own a enswell. He finally finished working on me asking every few minutes if i was hurting, which i finally said hell yeah im hurting, this was after he followed me to my car in the parking lot. Before i had this happen , i worked in a crew with 5 other men and one had wrist watch that chirped at 5 pm for quitting time, i was the only one in the room of the 5 that could hear that little chirp,2 weeks after the dental procedure, i noticed i could hold my ear to friends watch and couldn't hear it ,where b4 dental work i could hear it across the room., i now have moderate hearing loss and severe ringing in that ear Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-26077857146346580282018-03-12T17:00:45.121-04:002018-03-12T17:00:45.121-04:00Dear Jean

I would like to do the Facebook but can not figure out how to get on it for this group. My issue started in 2015 wih a molar extraction on lower right. The molar next to the last one. I had an actual oral surgeon do this who was an MD. He was to do a post for a new tooth. Anyway, I am a wimp so was knocked out. I was OK till two weeks later when I tried solid foods and whampy, my gums upper and lower went numb and I did have a lump inside my mouth behind my last molar and a bruise on my lower jaw. Now I realized he had to have hit a nerve. I told him and he got angry with me. I also apparently ended up with a misalignment of my bite. That had to have happened with the huge block he had to have put in my mouth to extract. My jaw must have been hard to open. I have always had issues of night grinding which then made everything worse. My teeth are always hurting and insatiable thirst etc. I do not have my tongue numb but I am in pain constantly. And like all of you , no one cares or listens. I went to a peridondist first thinking I had gum disease and did not. He referred me to a dental school who wont see me. They said I need a neurologist. I have a night guard but it does not take any pain away. I have done the magnetic machine with my brother who is a chiropractor along with massage and laser. The problem is I live way far away from him. I think it helped a bit but we dont live in the same state. I need my bite to change but my lower mouth is stationary because of the screw and crown that eventually replaced the tooth that was pulled. The thirst drives me crazy so I have been chewing gum daily for a year and a half. Which isnt good. But without the gum, I cant talk very well. The pain is only helped sometimes at night if I have a Xanax which calms the nerve endings. I would again like to get on the FB.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09408179351048146431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-14507065845801258492018-02-06T20:23:27.554-05:002018-02-06T20:23:27.554-05:00I was shot up by student today. I have read many blogs of people with pain after dental procedures and Ed's symptoms and treatment are very much like mine. Some nerve got injured by the novocaine shot. Enough about the problem. Oh, and I've had this for about 3 and a half years, ah!!! After putting the pieces together and getting confirmed by one of the best and most affordable psychics (Ann from mystic treasures in lakesworth), the solution is simple: rebuild the nervous system! Puffing the cheek where the pain is on with air and holding it there, sends tremendous energy in the jaw, tongue area. Massaging and applying pressure (acupressure) on the medulla oblongata feeds all of the nerves in head (mouth cheeks jaw tongue etc). Lion's Mane extract tea by terrasoul on amazon.com, half a teaspoon with hot water twice a day is said to build "nerves of steel". Dr Christopher's Relax Eze bulk tea, put them in capsules, take 2 or 3 times a day. Dr. Christopher's other time tested nerve formula called "nerve formula" extract on amazon.com. These medicines will rebuild the nervous system. They have worked for many years. They will continue to work. erichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03290779171529489681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267126802600758697.post-86954952318505976202018-01-15T19:38:12.350-05:002018-01-15T19:38:12.350-05:00Hello all,

Either enough time has passed, or the laser therapy I tried back in October really helped me.

In October I started going to a physiotherapist for my back muscle pain. She gave me some exercises and asked if I wanted to include ultrasound and laser therapy, and I agreed. Of course I told her about my problem and asked if she knew anything about it, and if the laser could help. She said she had never treated such an injury before, but confirmed that lasers are very beneficial in treating injured nerves.

So what she did was put the applicator (wand) against the back of my jaw, just below my ear and turned on the machine... I felt immediate relief! The burning came back later that day and it was intense, but I did feel relief back at her office. So I continued with the treatments and had 5 done in total. Every time I would feel relief during the treatment and the burning returned soon after. But then my condition started improving. Was it because of the laser or was it just that enough time had passed... I can't be sure.

But I think it is worth a try, you have nothing to lose.
Good luck everyone and stay strong!
Renata NShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17332125177430460614noreply@blogger.com
